    What happens in Jaundice?

    A condition in which the skin, mucous membranes, and white region of the eyes change their normal color to palish yellow. The body fluids may also vary in color. When this happens it means a person has jaundice. 

    The bilirubin levels increases in the body which result in this dysfunction. 

    Types of Jaundice

    The three types are: 

    • Pre-hepatic:  When the excessive red blood cells break down, it leads to an imbalance in the liver. The ability of the liver is compromised and the bilirubin is not conjugated well. 
    • Hepatic (Hepatocellular): The hepatic cells do not function properly in this case. Here, the bilirubin remains unconjugated. Usually, conjugated bilirubin is excreted normally, but the unconjugated one remains in the bloodstream causing jaundice. 
    • Post-hepatic: In the third type, there is obstruction of biliary drainage. Since it is not excreted out, it aggravates and causes a problem in the body. 

    The causes of Jaundice

    1. Poor diet and inactive lifestyle 
    2. Viruses such as Hepatitis A, B, & C, and Epstein Barr virus. 
    3. Alcohol
    4. Autoimmune disorders. 
    5. Metabolic defects
    6. Certain medications
    7. Gallstones
    8. Inflammation of the gall bladder

    The signs & symptoms of jaundice. 

    The symptoms that a person experiences other than losing the pigment are:

    1. Fatigue 
    2. Abdominal pain
    3. Vomiting & nausea
    4. Fever
    5. Pale urine
    6. Weight loss

    How is jaundice diagnosed? 

    The tests that are performed to diagnose this condition include: 

    1. Physical examination’
    2. Dosha analysis & Ayurvedic examination
    3. Urinalysis
    4. Complete blood count
    5. Liver chemistries

    The Ayurvedic treatment for jaundice: 

    Ayurveda is an ancient science that aims to deal with a disease or disorder in a purely natural approach. Natural ways and products are used that help in managing the malfunction and heal the body without worsening the already existing conditions using ayurvedic treatment for jaundice. The methodology involves the consumption of herbs, and spices, modification sin diet/lifestyle, and along with this regular practice of meditation and yoga.
